Royal Mail plans to fly a vintage biplane out of Farnborough International Airshow tomorrow morning to mark the first scheduled, international, airmail flight. The proving flight was made on July 15, 1919.
As part of our 500 years celebrations, they are putting together a very special mailbag to take over to our colleagues in La Poste in France. They have invited children from Wavell School in Farnborough – right next to the Airshow – to write some letters in their best French and personally hand them over to the pilot. They will then fly the mail over to Le Touquet in the biplane to deliver them to a French postman before returning in the afternoon.
